Life is a race. If you are not fast enough, you will get trampled. That is the message which “3 idiots” wants to conveys to everybody, especially to young people. Written and directed by Raijkumar Hrani, this Indian film is the story of Farhan, Raju and Rancho who are engineering students at the Imperial College of Engineering, one of the best colleges in India.
The three boys come to university with three different dreams. Farhan wants to become a wildlife photographer, but his father forces him to study engineering, whereas Raju needs help his family with financial issue. Besides, Rancho studies to satisfy his building machine passion because he always destroys the rules of school and the old study styles of students. He incurs the anger of college’s dean, Professor Viru Sahastrabuddhe (Virus), by giving creative and unusual answers, and later blames him for the suicide of fellow student Joy Lob.
There are many funny stories between 3 boys and Virus which make viewers not only relax but also reflect upon themselves. The climax of the film is when Rancho saves the baby of Virus’s elder daughter with his intelligence. He comes first at the final exam and is awarded the Virus’s prize pen which is for the excellent student. After that, Rancho, Farhan and Raju are successful and lead happy lives.
The film conveys an important message: it is the time for young people themselves to think about the educational system. However, this movie is not challenging the system of education, it is saying if you have ever had a dream and a passion follow it because your instincts teach you more than any text book can. Don’t be a machine, be an idiot. Also, wonderful soundtracks and natural acting of the cast are strong points of the film.
I thoroughly recommend this film. It is actually a good message oriented one about education, friendship and empathy.
